Accessibility

We aim to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA over time. We do not claim full ADA or WCAG certification. Accessibility is ongoing work. If something blocks you, email us and we will prioritize a fix.

• Skip link: Tab from the top of any page to jump to main content.
• City combobox: Arrow keys, Enter, Escape, Home/End, and announced result counts for the birthplace search.
• Labeled forms: Birth fields use explicit labels, described tips, and error alerts when a date is invalid.
• Live updates: Reading summaries and copy-reading feedback are announced to assistive tech where practical.
• Visible focus: Interactive controls show a gold focus outline on keyboard navigation.
• Reduced motion: We respect prefers-reduced-motion for non-essential animation.
• Text with color: Consensus and divergence labels are not color-only; text labels accompany status indicators.
• Cookie dialog: Focus moves into the banner and cycles within it until you choose a preference.

Dense tradition cards, decorative starfield backgrounds, and some third-party browser quirks (especially with native time/date controls) may still be imperfect with certain screen readers or magnification tools. Contrast on muted secondary text is improved but not independently audited against every WCAG threshold on every surface.

We test primarily in current versions of major browsers on desktop and mobile. If you use an older browser or specialized assistive technology and hit a blocker, tell us. Details help us prioritize fixes.
