Tibetan calendars use a twelve-year animal cycle too. Mouse, Ox, Tiger, and the rest, with element colors (Wood, Fire, Earth, Iron, and Water). Iron shows up instead of Metal, and the new year is Losar (Tibetan New Year), not Chinese Spring Festival or January 1.
Same wrinkle as Chinese: your animal year switches at Losar, not January 1. A late-winter birthday might still belong to the previous animal.
